His career really took off with McCloud and with the Steven Spielberg-directed Duel , a thriller made for the small screen essentially a one-man show in which a lone driver is menaced by a sinister petrol tanker driven by an unseen force. He languished in relative obscurity until he landed several guest spots on Jack Webb's Dragnet Placed 6th in the Olympic Trials in the Decathlon.
Finally, in , Dennis Weaver appeared in his first movie. He appeared in episodes of the popular series until he left the show in He even starred in the first film directed by Steven Spielberg. Dennis Weaver passed away from complications related to cancer on Feb. He was 81 years old at the time of his death. Interestingly, another classic television star died on the very same day.
